"There is always time for tea"

Pouring tea into a cup

Chai drinking has become an intrinsic part of Indian culture.

A typical day in an Indian home starts with a cup of tea and the newspaper. And working in an office, you find a steaming hot glass of tea on your table every couple of hours.

Just a sip instantly refreshes the mind and body. Visiting an Indian home, you are warmly welcomed with water and a cup of tea.

Chants of ‘Chai! Chai!’ echo through streets where mobile chai-walahs peddle tea in small transparent glasses. Every street corner - popularly called the ‘nukkad’ - has a tea stall frequented by people of all ages.

Friends, whether close or long lost, bonding and catching up over chai is a common sight across India, in the street corner stalls or the posh air conditioned tea cafes.

Chai is brewed everywhere - be it a village or a city. The gentle aroma and flavor of tea generates a sense of pleasure, well being and camaraderie amongst people not only in India but across the world, around the clock.

Tea became a resplendent tradition in India right from the 18th century. India is one of the largest producers and consumers of tea in the world. Indian tea is valued for its aroma, strength, and for its numerous varieties of quality teas.
